The results of this afternoon's AGM of the Egregious mob are just in, and make satisfying reading for the Anteater-in-Chief. In the contested elections, Rupert Jones was comfortably defeated by Nigel Short in the vote for FIDE Delegate. Even more delightfully, "Odious" Adam Raoof sensationally lost out to None of the Above, in his quest to take over as Director of Marketing! I confess to being most surprised by this unexpected show of discernment by the muppets on Council, but it would appear that this blog's message has finally penetrated, and the termites have at last seen through Raoof's plausible exterior.
Now that the Odious One has been given a dose of the "Spanish archer" (El Bow...), it remains to be seen if the few remaining members of the Management Board will attempt to circumvent Council's decision by co-opting him to fill one of the vacant posts. Any such behaviour would be a grievous affront to democracy, of course, but it would be foolish to assume that the Board will allow that consideration to sway them unduly. We shall see.
The only piece of grit in the afternoon's vaseline was that Roger "Alumnus" Edwards managed to scrape home as President, defeating None of the Above by just 111 votes to 101, hardly a ringing endorsement. Council also passed a separate motion, seeking to clip his wings, by banning him from re-visiting the issue of the compulsory membership scheme, as he had sought to do in his election manifesto, although whether such a Council motion can be enforced also remains to be seen.
All in all, not a bad afternoon's work for Anteaters everywhere, I feel.....
